A Cavan senator is encouraging students and families in Cavan to check if they qualify for SUSI grant.
Joe O'Reilly is making the point that expansion in eligibility criteria announced in Budget 2025 should encourage families to check if they qualify for support.
The Fine Gael senator said he understands the cost of third level education can be a real challenge for many families, and students are too often worried about whether they can afford to continue their studies.
Some of the key changes include an increase in the special rate income threshold from €26,200 to €27,400, a 15% increase in all other maintenance and student contribution grant thresholds, a rise in the income deduction for student earnings outside term time from €7,925 to €8,424.
Speaking to Northern Sound Senator O'Reilly said he is encouraging any families who may have been just above the threshold in the previous year to look again.
