Fine Gael's Councillor Carmel Brady says she is very humbled and privileged to become the next Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council.
Cllr Brady has been elected three times to the Bailieboro Cootehill Municipal District.
The proven vote getter also sought a seat in the 2024 General Election.
Cllr Winston Bennett proposed her to be the next Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council.
He said that Carmel has always put her community first in everything she has done adding that he believed she would make a wonderful chairperson over the next 12 months.
A very emotional Cllr Brady told the packed chamber of councillors, friends and family that she hoped her taking the role would encourage other women to enter politics.
All other councillors in attendance wished her well, while Fianna Fail’s Cllr Niall Smith was elected as Leas Cathaoirleach for Cavan County Council.
She says she is delighted to be chosen for the role, adding that it was a huge honour for her and her family.
