A local councillor has sought an update on proposed road safety measures for the Kingscourt Road in Carrickmacross.
Cllr Colm Carthy says that increased housing in recent years has led to higher traffic volumes and greater pedestrian use in the area.
In response, he was informed that the council is advancing plans to demolish a derelict building on the western edge of the R179 Kingscourt/Magheraboy Junction and plans to demolish it to improve safety at the junction.
Design proposals are currently being developed, which will include measures to improve traffic flow as well as a new pedestrian crossing.
It is expected that the design details of the proposed road safety measures will be presented to elected members and the public in late Q2 of 2026.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Carthy said the improvements would be a welcome step for residents and road users in the area.
