Monaghan Journalist Aaron McNicholas is among those to have been refused a work visa for Hong Kong.

Concerns have been raised about a clamp down by China on foreign media in the region.

Aaron McNicholas has previously worked for Bloomberg and other news outlets and was among those reporting on recent protests in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Free Press has issued a statement saying he had been denied a work visa after a six month wait, without any official reason.

In a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound, its editor Tom Grundy claims the outlet was "targeted" because of its "impartial and fact-based coverage".
