The Continuity IRA has claimed it fired shots at a Police helicopter during a security alert in the border area of Fermanagh this week. The organisation claimed an explosive device was planted in the Wattlebridge area on Wednesday night.

The main Cavan to Clones road was closed as a precaution while the PSNI investigated the reports but no device was found. The Continuity IRA has now claimed it shot at a Police helicopter working in the area as part of the operation.

However, the PSNI’s District Commander for Fermanagh Superintendent Alywin Barton says “no police aircraft, deployed in the area, was required to take evasive action”.

He also says there have been no reports of shots fired in the area. Gardaí have been working with the Police as part of the investigation.
