€400,000 in funding has been allocated, but councillor Brian McKenna say the works will cost around €13 million.

A local councillor has expressed concern that "we will be talking about flooding in Monaghan Town for years to come".

At this week's Monaghan MD meeting, councillors made enquiries about flood remediation works by Monaghan Town Shopping Centre.

The area was highlighted as an area of immediate concern in 2001, but wasn't added to a national priority list.
