The family of Shane O'Farrell, who was killed in a hit-and-run incident near Carrickmacross will meet with the justice minister tomorrow.
They are to meet Minister Jim O'Callaghan as part of the ongoing campaign for a public inquiry.
The 23 year old was killed while cycling near his home in Carrickmacross on the 2nd of August 2011. The driver of the car, Zigimantas Gridziuska, had a string of previous convictions, including offences for road traffic incidents, theft and drugs
Gridziuska left the scene before later handing himself into gardaí.
Previously Deputy Matt Carthy told Northern Sound that state agencies have "delayed" the O'Farrell family's access to justice for their son.
Also speaking to Northern Sound in recent weeks, Shane’s mother Lucia O'Farrell believes her family have been continuously let down by all previous Justice Ministers. Furthermore, she now hopes Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan will honour his previous calls.
Speaking in the Dail earlier today, Minister O'Callaghan said he will consider asking the Oireachtas justice committee to examine the recommendations of the scoping inquiry when the committee is established.
The family have always said that only an independent public inquiry would be accepted.
In a statement today, the family of Shane O'Farrell said they are due to meet Minister O'Callaghan tomorrow morning at the Department of Justice, and still want a public inquiry to take place.
"The O'Farrell family will meet Minister for Justice, Jim O Callaghan tomorrow. "We hope Mr O'Callaghan will still hold the position he held before becoming minister, where he supported the family's call for an inquiry into Shane's death and recognised the flaws in the report by Judge Haughton.”
