Environmental Services staff at Monaghan County Council have been supporting and providing assistance to Inland Fisheries Ireland in relation to the recent serious pollution incident that occurred on the River Glyde.
The incident resulted in a very significant fish kill over a 25km stretch of the river from Aclint Bridge in County Monaghan to Lynns Weir, Castlebellingham, Co Louth.
According to Monaghan County Council, due to the significant nature of the fish kill, the investigation is being led by the IFI who are presently preparing a file for a potential prosecution.
The source of the pollution, which has since ended and has been identified as an agricultural discharge from a farmyard in Co. Monaghan close to the Co.Louth border.
