Gardaí in Co Cavan are appealing to dog owners to ensure that dogs are not in a position to wander. According to local Gardaí, it is of vital importance to ensure that dogs are not in a position to wander, particularly onto farmlands containing sheep. Speaking to Northern Sound, Garda Lisa Stevens of Bailieborough Garda Station said that it is "unfortunate" that a number of attacks have already been reported to local Gardaí.
According to Garda Stevens, such incident have resulted in a "huge financial loss" for farmers. She added that it's important for people to know that the onus on the owner to control their dog not the farmer. "It's very simple, your dog should be chipped and you should have a secure safe space for them where they cannot escape from."
