It was confirmed that a presentation on the scheme had been received 'favourably' by a national advisory group.

Gardaí will not have direct live access to view CCTV cameras which are to be newly installed across Monaghan Town in the new year.

The issue was discussed at December's meeting of the County Monaghan Joint Policing Committee.

Following news that a total of 43 cameras look set be installed in the new year, Cllr Raymond Aughey "welcomed" the news, however he said he hoped that the cameras would be installed and in action before the start of summer.

Cllr Aughey also questioned if Gardaí would have access to the cameras from the local police station.

According to Superintendent Pat O'Connell, Gardaí will not have direct access to view the camera footage from the station.

Speaking at the meeting, Supt. O'Connell said that Gardaí had access as joint data controllers to go in and inspect the CCTV images but they would not have a live feed in the Garda Station as this was the subject of a data protection issue.
