He says although we now have peace on the island, "we are not yet fully reconciled".

The Tánaiste says the Good Friday Agreement opened a path to a better future for Ireland.

Micheál Martin says we have "more to do to deliver on the fresh start the Good Friday Agreement promised."

Mr Martin addressed an event at the Abbey Theatre last night as the 25th Anniversary of its signing draws ever closer.

He also referred to the media coverage at the time, when our screens were showing "bombs, bullets, beatings; massacres, murder, and mayhem."

The Tánaiste says principles outlined in the 1998 agreement should act as a guide for our island in 2023:
