The Public Expenditure Minister says the government's hands are tied over pay rises for judges.

The cabinet signed off on a two per cent increase for members of the judiciary and opposition party whips yesterday.

Cuts to judges' pensions have also been restored.

It comes after criticism of the government rejecting a motion calling for student nurses to be paid during the pandemic.
