'The environment was warm and welcoming and the standard of infection prevention was good'

A recent HIQA inspection of Drumbear Nursing Home in Monaghan found that the centre was complaint in all areas that were examined. The latest report, published earlier today, says the facility is well governed and appropriately resourced for effective delivery of care.

It also points out that staffing levels are adequate to the size and layout of the nursing home but some improvements could be made with regard to the recording of information in the directory of residents.

The inspection also found that the environment was warm and welcoming; the standard of infection prevention was good; and the food was both of good quality and quantity. Drumbear Lodge is a purpose-built, single story building with 70 residents and is located in the heart of Monaghan town.

Meanwhile, the HIQA inspection report on 55 nursing homes found 28 centres were either fully compliant or substantially compliant with national standards and regulations. In general, according to the report, those centres were found to be meeting residents' needs and delivering care in line with standards and regulations.

Levels of non-compliance varied in the remaining inspection reports, with 15 centres non-compliant with three regulations or less, and 12 centres non-compliant with four or more regulations.
