Hopes report into R116 helicopter crash will provide some closure

A final report into the tragedy is expected to be published today.

The widow of one of the crew members killed in the R116 helicopter crash is hoping a report into the tragedy provides some closure.

Dara Fitzpatrick, Mark Duffy, Paul Ormsby and Ciaran Smith lost their lives when their helicopter crashed into Blackrock Island off the Mayo coast in 2017.

Captain Dara Fitzpatrick was the grand-niece of the late Thomas J. 'Tom' Fitzpatrick, who was first elected to the Dáil for the Cavan constituency at the 1965 general election.

A final report into the tragedy is expected to be published today and will find the actions of the crew were not a factor in the crash.
