There has been an increase in the number of children across the Northern Sound region in care.
That's according to the CEO of Tusla, Kate Duggan.
Tusla representatives were asked about the care it provides in Cavan and Monaghan by local TD, Matt Carthy at a meeting of the Óireachtas Justice Committee.
At the meeting, Ms. Duggan said that Tusla has completely dismantled the structure of the organisation.
In doing so, it brought in a single point of entry for all children, as well as 90 brand-new family support teams across the country.
Deputy Carthy asked what impact the changes will have for children in Tusla care across Cavan and Monaghan.
Ms. Duggan explained that Cavan and Monaghan has seen an increase in the number of children in care.
There has also been a number of children from the region in care in other parts of the country, that have been transferred back into Cavan and Monaghan.
The Tusla CEO said that Cavan and Monaghan are one of three areas where there has been an increase in the number of children in care.
She explained that their new model outlines areas that need resources, to allow equal access to Tusla services across the country.
