A Local Senator has raised the issue of the Battery Energy Storage System sites in the Seanad.
Aontú Senator Sarah O'Reilly, expressed her concern that there was no meaningful focus on fire safety, environmental risk or proper regulation.
She is making the point that communities across Ireland will be living beside these facilities with little protection.
She pointed to Cavan where permission for two major BESS facilities at Shankill Lower and Pottle have been granted, which has led to concerns and objections from locals.
Speaking in the Seanad this morning, Senator O'Reilly, said she wants to see a pause on these kinds of facilities until safety concerns are dealt with.
