Caolán Faux warns that some transgender people are being intentionally targeted and "dead-named".

Language can have a "destructive power" if not used sensibly.

That's according to a local youth worker, who says discussion is never negative, as long as it remains respectful.

Caolán Faux is the Director of Youth Work Ireland across Cavan and Monaghan and warns that some transgender people he works with are being intentionally targeted and "dead-named".

Dead-naming is the act of referring to a transgender by a name they used prior to transitioning.

Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Caolán says the old adage of "sticks and stones" is wrong:
