A local animal charity is having its worst year on record for abandoned cats and kittens.
The Kitten Cottage is an animal sanctuary based in Virginia, which started off as a refuge for stray or unwanted cats and kittens.
Local volunteer Maire Egan believes the surge could be largely due to owners failing to neuter their pets, despite low-cost neutering schemes being available.
The organisation currently has 34 cats and kittens in its care and says the numbers continue to rise across Cavan and surrounding areas.
The charity is running low on funds to care for the animals and is hosting a pop-up shop fundraiser this weekend.
Speaking to Northern Sound Maire gave the details for this weekend.
