A local businessman is urging people in the region to ignore missed calls from international numbers they don't recognise.
Tommy Sheahan, who is the owner of North Pole Fuels in Cavan, recently received a missed call from an international number and returned the call because he thought it could have been a customer.
Tommy says the two minute phone call cost him over €18.

It's part of a scam where calls are made in the hope that you will ring them back, and that call will then be charged at a premium rate.
The scammers then receive a portion of this premium phone bill.
