Legislation on the use of e-scooters and e-bikes is on the way here.
On this morning's Joe Finnegan Show while the matter was being discussed, it emerged that efforts are now underway in Italy for users of the scooters and bikes to take out insurance and wear helmets so that road deaths can be reduced there.
Speaking on the Show, Francis Meehan from Monaghan who has been cycling for the last 54 years, highlighted how helmets and hi-vis jackets are the way forward.

He says by making them compulsory, road safety would be more successful.
Francis added that while the proposal in Italy has positive elements, he doesn't agree with asking users of the e-scooters and e-bikes having to take out insurance.
