A local Consultant is urging pregnant woman to get the Covid vaccine.
Professor Sean Daly, who is a Consultant in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at Cavan Hospital, says pregnant women should avail of the vaccine when offered it as the benefits greatly outweigh the risks.
He says Covid can have a serious impact on pregnant women and their unborn child, particularly as a pregnancy progresses.
The HSE says trails involving more than 100,000 pregnant women in the US raised no safety concerns for the women or their babies.
Professor Daly says women who have a high BMI or underlying conditions like diabetes in particular should get the vaccine.
