A local councillor says yesterday's crash in Castleblayney in which two men died is tragic news for the area.

Colm Carthy says that road safety in Monaghan has been improving in recent years, which makes yesterday's fatalities an even bigger blow for the region.

Two Polish nationals, in their 30s and 40s, were killed when their vehicle left the road between Castleblayney and Lough Egish.

The men had recently arrived in Ireland to work with local construction company, Tusker Construction Group.
