Cllr Connolly will attend the meeting with Minister Ryan in Leinster House next month.

A Monaghan councillor will attend a meeting with Transport Minister Eamon Ryan in Leinster House over concerns with the N2/A5 road network. According to Cllr Paudge Connolly who is a member of the A5 cross border committee, which aims to get the N2 and A5 joined up from Ardee right through to Donegal, the meeting is scheduled for May 13th. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Connolly said that it's of vital importance that the funding allocation of €600m promised under the Government's Shared Island investment follows through. He highlighted that this has been an issue lasting over 17 years, and that he hopes Government will not hold back when it comes to the development of the A5/N2.

According to the Monaghan councillor, the A5/N2 road network has one of the "worst records" in terms of road safety across the country. He added that something "must be done" sooner rather than later to reduce further fatalities. "There's promises of money coming from our side over the past 12 - 14 years and it's now a reality," Cllr Connolly explained. "There's been different blocks, different legal challenges and I think we're through most of them at this stage. I would hope now that we can just take that next step and get the shovel in the ground and finally get this project started."
