Local domestic violence service encourages people to seek support when violence occurs

Siobhan McKenna says news items like the jailing of Daniel Murtagh makes people "take stock of their own life".

It's important to speak to someone outside the home and to seek support when sexual or domestic violence occurs.

That's the message from Siobhan McKenna, who is the manager of the Tearmann Domestic Violence Services in Cavan and Monaghan.

Siobhan adds that news items such as the jailing of Daniel Murtagh makes people "take stock of their own life" and think about the supports that are available to them.

Murtagh was handed a life sentence for the murder of Nadine Lott, who died in hospital after her ex-boyfriend subjected her to a savage beating in her apartment in Co Wicklow in 2019.
