A local fuel supplier says there is already a scarcity of Bord na Móna peat briquettes, following the company's decision to stop peat

A local fuel supplier says there is already a scarcity of Bord na Móna peat briquettes, following the company's decision to stop peat harvesting.

The decision was made as part of the company's transition towards more climate friendly solutions but Bord na Móna said it will continue to manufacture peat briquettes until 2024.

However, Tommy Sheehan, of North Pole Fuels in Cavan, says there is a huge demand for briquettes and that they are being imported from mainland Europe to deal with the shortage.

On today's Joe Finnegan Show, Tommy questioned Bord na Móna's decision to cease peat harvesting, given the number of briquettes that are arriving from Europe:
