People are being encouraged to assess the risk of their socialising and not be afraid to take a step back if they don't feel safe.

The HSE says people in Cavan and Monaghan should prioritise who they meet up with this Christmas.

People are being encouraged to assess the risk of their socialising and not be afraid to take a step back if they don't feel safe.

Counties Cavan and Monaghan currently have some of the lowest rates of Covid-19 in the country, but Dr Sean Denyer, Acting Director of Public Health North East says it's on the backdrop of high incidence rates elsewhere in Ireland.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, he said any efforts to reduce your contacts will help make Christmas safer.
