Local Irish Cancer Society volunteer driver encourages people to partake in 'wonderful' scheme

There were 214 volunteer driver journeys undertaken across the Northern Sound region last year.

A local volunteer driver with the Irish Cancer Society has encouraged people "who have the time" to partake in the "wonderful" scheme.

The Volunteer Driver Service provides transport for cancer patients to and from their hospital chemotherapy treatments.

Monaghan-man Pat Derry says it's a great way for retired people, in particular, to fill their days while helping others.

While there were 214 volunteer driver journeys undertaken across the Northern Sound region last year, Pat says the Irish Cancer Society needs more volunteers in Co Monaghan.
