Local Minister of State, Niamh Smyth has welcomed confirmation of two additional special classes for schools in Co. Cavan and Co. Monaghan.
It was announced this morning that St. Bricin’s College in Belturbet, and St. Joseph’s National School in Carrickmacross will receive an additional special class.

She believes that the classes will make it easier for more students to access the supports they need within their own communities.
Deputy Smyth said that it is essential that our education system continues to evolve to meet changing needs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed,
The classes follows on from the allocation of 12 already in both counties to date in 2026.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Minister of State said she was “delighted” by the news.
Minister of State Smyth said: “These extra classes will make it easier for more students to access the supports they need within their own communities.
“It’s essential that our education system continues to evolve to meet changing needs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed, with strong local provision playing a key role in that progress," she added.
