All of the men in question have been found to be involved in tobacco smuggling-related offences.

A number of men from Cavan and Monaghan have been listed in the most recent Revenue and Customs list of defaulters.

Every quarter Revenue and Customs publish a list of people who have defaulted or otherwise evaded their tax liabilities. Revenue published the List of Tax Defaulters in respect of the period 1 October 2023 to 31 December 2023

A Mr Olegs Cickalenko, a factory worker from 29 Alderwood, Carrickmacross has been ordered to carry out 240 hours community service in lieu of 12 months imprisonment for one charge of tobacco smuggling and for the possession of untaxed tobacco. Similarly, Rafal Jozef Steindel of 7 Percy French Close in Ballyjamesduff, who has been described by Revenue as a PAYE employee has been issued with a €2500 for tobacco smuggling.

Meanwhile, also in Cavan two men from the same address at 4 Kilmore Flats in Ballyjamesduff were both found guilty of tobacco smuggling. Following a court appearance, Jurate Janikune and Eimantas Janikunas have each to pay fines of €2,500.

And finally, in the list of defaulters in respect of the period 1 October 2023 to 31 December 2023 a Co. Tyrone haulier, Michael Doherty of 49 Primrose Hill, in Clogher was ordered to pay a €3500 fine for tobacco smuggling.
