Local senator says school patronage survey findings must be respected

Aontú Senator Sarah O'Reilly says that the results are decisive and show that despite what she terms "the relentless push to rid schools of any vestiges of religion or faith" there is a huge appetite for its retention.

A local senator says the vast majority of parents and guardians across Cavan Monaghan want to see a religious ethos retained in primary schools.
70.5% of respondents in Monaghan and 65.5% in Cavan voted in the recent National primary school survey making the constituency one of the strongest supporters of maintaining religious ethos in the entire country.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator O'Reilly said the public has spoken and its opinion should be respected regarding religion in schools.
She says we live in a democracy and the people's voices as well as their votes must be respected:
