Local TD calls government "misguided" for sending representatives to Armagh centenary event

Matt Cathy says no other government would attend an event that "essentially celebrates something disastrous for our country".

A local Sinn Féin TD has described the government as "misguided" for sending representatives to a centenary event in the North.

President Michael D Higgins has already declined an invitation to Church Service in Armagh later this month, and Matt Carthy says this was "the right call".

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Simon Coveney, and the Government Chief Whip, Jack Chambers, will attend after Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe said it was appropriate for the Government to send a representative.

Deputy Cathy told The Wider View that no other government would attend an event that "essentially celebrates something that was disastrous for our country":
