A local woman believes the current 28-day rule in relation to abortion isn't practical, due to her personal experience.
It comes as the LMC bereavement support charity has released a book sharing the experiences of families who have faced terminations.
Current legislation in Ireland allows abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, after that period it is permitted in exceptional circumstances.
This includes situations where continuing the pregnancy could cause serious harm to the mother's health or life or is likely to lead to the death of the foetus before or within 28 days of birth due to a problem with its development.
Christine Monahan, based in Cavan, was 20-weeks pregnant when she found out her baby had a rare and severe heart condition.
She described the traumatic experience of facing the decision and then having to travel to Liverpool for the termination.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, she argued that the 28 day rule is far too restrictive.
