A Co Monaghan woman has expressed her concerns over revelations of neglect in two private nursing homes.
An RTÉ Investigates programme showed neglect at The Residence Portlaoise and Beneavin Manor in Glasnevin in north Dublin.
Rebecca Cullen is from Co Monaghan and has experience of working in the caring sector.
Rebecca said it was "mind-boggling" that it took 17 weeks for HIQA to come out and inspect the nursing homes after concerns were expressed by a whistle-blower.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Rebecca believes responsibility must be taken by those who are placing clients in nursing homes.
She said it's important to remember that the state is paying for a lot of these placements, and the HSE has a responsibility to ensure that the care provided is meeting the needs of people.
