There is a "real fear" out there amongst older people when it comes to being scammed, whether that be online, via telephone or text.
That's according to councillor Sinead Flynn who recently attended a crime prevention event which was held in Smithboro.
Joe Glackin who is the crime prevention office for Cavan-Monaghan gave an invaluable presentation into fraud and the various scams out there.
Cllr Flynn says unfortunately scams are becoming more common and sophisticated and are targeting people of all ages every single day.
Criminals are constantly finding new ways on how to take advantage of people.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Sinead Flynn said members of the public should stay alert and never feel pressurised to give out personal or financial information.
If something feels suspicious don't click on any unknown links or respond to messages, it's important take a step back and have a think.
