A Monaghan journalist believes lowering the voting age to 16 is the wrong move.
Last week, the Social Democrats introduced a bill in the Dáil calling for a referendum on lowering the voting age from 18 to 16.
They argue that young people are well-informed enough to be part of the decision making processes.
However, Editor of Gript.ie, John McGuirk believes that lowering the voting age would be inconsistent.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, the Monaghan native argues that if they're old enough to vote, then they're old enough to be tried as an adult in the courts should they commit a crime.
