The Higher Education Minister told Northern Sound he is committed to providing more apprenticeships specifically targeted to the business needs of Cavan and Monaghan.
Simon Harris was talking on the Wider View programme when he was asked what he would do to serve the requirements of industry here.
The minister explained how he recently visited Cavan Institute and Monaghan College and was aware of the successful industry from milk production to engineering and manufacturing, in this region. Deputy Harris said he was "very eager" to do more in the way of delivering more apprenticeship programmes specific to this area.
Monaghan College has "definitely" indicated to the Minister their "wish" and "belief" to do more. When his department opens up applications for apprenticeship capacity, he predicts take up will increase in Monaghan.
