A Co. Monaghan couple has appeared in court over a mobile home in their back garden which breaches planning laws. The Carrickmacross family used the mobile unit mainly for storage on their property.
In 2023, Monaghan County Council ordered them to remove it but when the husband and wife appeared in Monaghan District Court recently they told the judge they could not afford to hire an electrician to disconnect the power to it nor the cost of removing it so did not act on the council notice.
The Monaghan case brings back into the spotlight current laws which prevent people from erecting mobile homes on their property. Judge Raymond Finnegan told them "for all intents and purposes you are pleading guilty" and asked that the couple engage meaningfully with Monaghan County Council until the matter is back in court on March 26th.
