Monaghan road closed due to fallen tree

Caution being advised as winds expected to ‘pick up again’

Monaghan Co Council has confirmed the L-8400-0 at Toome (Farney By) in Castleblayney is currently closed due to a fallen tree.

In Co Cavan a number of fallen trees on the roads have now been dealt with by the local Fire Service.

Over the last couple of hours, emergency services have been treating an oil spill from Virginia through Ballyjamesduff and onto Kilnaleck.

Motorists are advised to be careful if travelling in the area.

The local authority is advising caution although winds have died down.

“Though locally winds have died down for now, they will pick up again,” Cavan Co Council added.

“Further incidents can be expected throughout the day and night."

Meanwhile, Monaghan County Council has launched a dedicated phone line to help customers report emergency road issues that they encounter.

The new Road Emergency Line- 1800 121 121 - is operational 24/7.

Electricity has also been restored in Ballybay, and in Monaghan Town
