A Monaghan woman has been elected Lord Mayor of Dublin.
Labour Party Councillor for Dublin City Alison Gilliland, is a Ballybay native, and took over from the Green Party's Hazel Chu last night.
She's only the tenth woman to hold the position, which has been in existence since 1665.

Speaking after her election, she says improving the safety of the city will be one of her priorities.
