Gardaí are urging people to not engage with suspicious texts after a Monaghan woman was scammed out of a substantial amount of money.
It's understood the women received a message in recent days alleging to be her child who was looking for money to be transferred.
More than €1,000 was sent across in two transactions, and was lost to the fraudsters.

In light of this most recent incident, Gardaí are appealing to people to ignore potential scam messages and verify the recipient before transferring money.
