Meath River Rescue who had spent over a month on searches for two missing people in Navan has been gifted a new boat.
Members say they were left gobsmacked when fundraising efforts to afford a 62,000 euro boat were answered in full.
On an online post the group says they had amassed over €13,000 on their iDonate page as a result of kind donations from local businesses and people in recognition of their work.
However, a local businessman and owner of Sretaw Swooped in when he heard of our plight and pledged all the money needed.
According to the Facebook post, Since January Meath River Rescue has recovered the bodies of 7 people from the waters in Meath and Cavan. In welcoming the kind donation, Meath River Rescue chairman Christopher Rennicks said: "It's unreal. We can't thank Eamon enough.
"This is the second time in a decade he has come to our aid and we are so grateful. "This new boat will mean we can get up and down the Boyne and over the weirs without damaging the boat or the gear stick. It will allow us to carry out searches more thoroughly and reach people faster.
"It has been a really busy year for us and we all do it in our spare time. But we don't give up until families are given their loved ones back so they can bury them and have peace of mind. "We couldn't do this without the support of the communities in Meath and surrounding counties who carry us and keep us going with their huge ongoing support and donations."
