Source of significant fish kill identified in Co Monaghan

The source of a significant fish kill is Co Louth has been identified as agricultural discharge from a location in County Monaghan.

Inland Fisheries Ireland is continuing to investigate a serious fish kill on the River Glyde in Co Louth.

The IFI estimates that more than 20,000 fish have died in the incident over an approximate 25km stretch of the river.

The impacted area spans from Aclint Bridge, Co Monaghan to Lynns Weir, Castlebellingham, Co Louth.

Louth County Council say they continue to monitor the recent pollution incident in the River Glyde, they confirmed the source has been identified as agricultural discharge in Co. Monaghan which has now been stopped.

Oxygen levels in the river are returning to normal, and there are currently no impacts on public water supplies.
Louth County Council say they will continue to monitor the situation and liaise with Inland Fisheries Ireland who are investigating the incident.
