The organisation's call comes against the backdrop of dramatic increases in fuel prices.

Older people living in more rural areas in the region will be impacted most if the fuel allowance isn't extended.

ALONE the organisation that supports older people to age at home, is calling on Government to extend the Fuel Allowance season to 32-weeks and increase the payment by €4 per week.

The organisation's call comes against the backdrop of dramatic increases in fuel prices over 2021.

CEO Sean Moynihan says that this is particularly prevalent in areas like Cavan and Monaghan where there are rural, isolated dwellings with poor BERs.

He says something needs to be done in the upcoming budget:
