Man in his 20s dies in N2 Monaghan collision

The fatal road collision occurred on the N2 road between Castleblayney and Carrickmacross in Monaghan.

A man in his 20s has died following a collision on the N2 road between Castleblayney and Carrickmacross this morning.

Gardaí are currently at the scene of the fatal two vehicle collision involving a car and van, which, happened at around 6:15am this morning at Moneygorbet, Castleblayney.

The male driver of the car, aged in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has since been removed to the mortuary in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a post mortem will take place. The male passenger, aged in his 20s was injured and has been removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda with non life threatening injuries.

The male driver of the van, aged in this 50s, was removed from the scene to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda with non life threatening injuries.

Gardaí told Northern Sound the road is closed and will likely remain so for the rest of the day while a technical examination of the scene is carried out by forensic collision investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
