On his way home from work on September 17th 2019, Kevin Lunney claims he was bundled into the back of a car by two masked men.

It is the prosecution’s case that he was then taken to a container on the land of 66 year old Luke O’Reilly of Kilcogy Lower, Mullaghoran, Co Cavan where he claims he was stripped and subjected to a beating.

This involved being struck with something that broke his leg and being marked with a Stanley knife.

The prosecution told the Court those responsible became concerned their DNA may  have been on Mr Lunney so he was then doused in bleach before being dumped in a ditch by the side of a road.

The prosecution claims the bleach was bought by Mr O’Reilly in Lynch’s Gala shop in Killydoon that evening.

The prosecution claims 27 year old Darren Redmond and 40 year old Alan O’Brien, who are both from East Wall in Dublin 3 and a fourth man who can’t be identified are responsible for the attack on Kevin Lunney.

It alleges Mr O’Reilly was involved through providing material assistance in the planning or execution of the offences.

All have pleaded not guilty to falsely imprisoning Mr Lunney and causing him serious harm.

The Court has so far heard from technical examiners from the Gardaí and PSNI who visited the site where the attack is believed to have taken place and the site where Mr Lunney was bundled into the car near his home.
