The new accommodation will further enhance the school says Cllr Aine Smith.

The approval by Cavan County Council of the planning application for eight new classrooms at St Mogue's College in Bawnboy has been described as a "great way " to start the new school year. That's according to local councillor Aine Smith, who is also an Irish teacher at the school. The new accommodation will include four specialist classrooms, two SEN rooms, two general classrooms and ancillary accommodation.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Smith described the approval as a "great way " to start the new school year.

According to the Fianna Fail representative, the new accommodation will further enhance the growing enrolment at the West Cavan school and will benefit both students and staff for decades to come.

She added that the wider school community of St Mogue's College has been invaluable in terms of getting the local school to this point.

"As a school we appreciate the support of the wider school community and the school's catchment area," explained Cllr Smith. "I know that my father, the late Cllr Sean Smith, was very much at the forefront in pushing for this development and I know that he would be so proud of this major investment. The future is bright and we can see this through the growing enrolment that we have here in St Mogue's and this new accommodation just shows the commitment and the support of the community in our area."
