Inspector Donegan died 50 years ago this week, on the 8th of June 1972

A memorial plaque has been unveiled in Cavan to honour the late Inspector Samuel Donegan.

Inspector Donegan died 50 years ago this week while on duty on a laneway north of Redhills village.

The memorial event, organised by the Cavan Branch of the Garda Siochana Retired Members Association (GSRMA), was held yesterday.

It was attended by members of the Inspector’s family.

A full colour parade was led by the Garda Band along Farnham Street to the steps of the Courthouse where a short Ecumenical service took place.

The plaque was then unveiled at Cavan Garda Station.
