President Michael D. Higgins has praised a Cootehill author's new book for
"offering hope" during the pandemic.
Ruairí McKiernan's "Hitching for Hope - A Journey into the Heart and Soul of
Ireland" is based on the author's hitchhiking adventures across Ireland.
President Higgins recently invited Ruairí to present the book at Áras an
Uachtaráin and the President said the book "is in the fine tradition of a
search for what is most valuable in the different spaces of Ireland".

While Ruairí says he and President Higgins both "agreed that hitching might
never return to its glory days", he added both men "feel the spirit of human
connection and support for each other is more important than ever".
