The election to choose the next president of Ireland is expected to take place on October 23rd.

This would make the election just over two weeks after Budget 2026. The expected date follows the news over the weekend that the majority of Fianna Fail TDs and Senators would support Bertie Ahern to run for President.
The former Taoiseach resigned from the political party in 2012, following the publication of the Mahon Tribunal. The poll was carried out by Virgin Media News.
Meanwhile, Heather Humphreys is expected to edge out Seán Kelly in the Fine Gael race with nominations closing next week.
