A prisoner has absconded from Loughan House in Co Cavan.
Gardaí have confirmed to Northern Sound news that the Prison Service informed them of a man aged in his 40s absconding from the open prison.
It’s understood the man was jailed for serious offences but was moved to the Blacklion-based facility to serve out the rest of his sentence.
Gardaí in the North Western Region are following "a definite line of enquiry in relation to a number of car thefts", reported in early October. The prisoner who absconded on October 6th is believed to have been involved in car thefts in Cavan and Leitrim earlier this month.
Gardaí are actively seeking the prisoner and anyone with information can contact the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111. A Garda spokesperson say Gardaí in the North Western Region are following a definite line of enquiry in relation to a number of car thefts that were reported in October 2023.
